Musclecars can give the impression of poor fuel economy on looks alone. For some versions of the Chevy Camaro, it just did not happen.
The V-8-powered SS and ZL1 Camaro will not take home the award for saving the planet, although they are quite efficient for large rank their power. The V-8 SS score only 15-16 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, depending on transmission is selected, for example.
Results The ZL1's outstanding 580-horsepower output ranked fairly low gas mileage: EPA pegs manual in mpg 14/19 mpg and the automatic at 12/18, regardless of body style is selected.
The V-6 Camaro, though, was not very good, considering the sporty nature of the car. When equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, the coupe is as high as 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with the manual transmission models get 17/28-mpg ratings.
