There is no getting past it: The 2013 Mazda CX-5 may be the best drive of any compact crossover. Mazda engineers spent a lot of time working on the feel of linear control, and it shows. CX-5 is for sure-footed enough that drivers can end up traveling 15 mph faster than they realize. It corners flat and acceleration, braking, and handling all felt completely integrated and assure predictable-so much so that it's hard to find anything to say except that they are right.
As the sportiest compact crossover on the market, the 2013 Mazda CX-5 handles well but firm ride. Ride quality can get busy and a little nervous on the road surface, and the company for the choppy over freeway expansion joints, but the condition only occurs in a small number of roads, and overall crossover Mazda feels solid and reassuring.
CX-5 is equipped with a 155-horsepower 2.0-liter engine that produces 150 pounds-ft of torque and is equipped with a combustion ratio of 13:1, the highest of any petrol engine sold in the U.S. This engine is paired with either a six-speed manual or six -speed automatic with all-wheel drive is offered on all trim levels. The company said it expects about 10 percent of the CX-5 buyers to choose manual.
The main drawback CX-5 is that it felt underpowered in situations where more power means safer driving. Uphill freeway on-ramps, for example, requires thought and pre-planning, and it's still a game to squeeze enough power out of the engine to keep up with traffic. Mazda quoted 0-to-60-mph acceleration time 8.8 seconds (for the six-speed manual) to 9.3 seconds (for the model of all-wheel-drive).
Mazda is set automatically to match revs caution on shift, so while it sounds almost like slurs engine noise while during the shift, there is no any surge when the power re-day conduct. Manual mode on the automatic gear designated holding indefinitely, unlike other cars, which go back to automatic after a certain period of time. Novice drivers should be familiar with pushing the lever forward to downshift, back to upshift-the opposite of the usual setup, but one that feels very strong Mazda is the "right way" to install it.
Although fairly flat torque curve, the most powerful engine above 3000 rpm, making it sing is the best way to speed quickly. Is that how the crossover buyers who want to drive another question.
New Mazda CX-5 is the first to include a complete "SkyActiv" technology, in which every component of the vehicle is designed to be as light and efficient as possible. This sounds like simple things, but Mazda expects to get some of the highest fuel economy ratings in the class without using direct injection, turbocharging, hybrid, or one of the other automakers expensive way to improve mileage.
Instead, the engine has a manifold 4-to-2-into-1 exhaust large and complex that increases the efficiency of the combustion engine compartment but needs to be designed around it, and each component of the ease. CX-5 curb weight varies 3210-3430 pounds, lighter than most competitors, and cites drag coefficient 0.33, low for the crossover.
