With the termination of the Volvo S40 and V50 compact models, C30 continues on as something of an outlier in the U.S. Volvo lineup. While the S60 and Volvo XC60 managed to woo the crowd with a set of traditional family family-friendly solid credentials and roomier package, a vibrant look-C30 offers something very different. Part sporty coupe, hatchback section chiseled, 2013 C30 makes an appeal to a crowd of more performance-minded and style-conscious, you could say, but only managed to hit the target with the last group - and falls very short on practicality.
The Volvo C30 is one of the most stylish small car on the market when it was first introduced a few years ago, and remains as it was a sign that it's aging well. C30 has a clear design makes packing some sacrifices for the sake of a slim, low, and rakish, but overall the C30 looks shyly proud of it. Inside, the C30 has a sophisticated design that'smore and relaxing, compared to the 'hot hatch' the most, with the now-familiar center stack Volvo's 'floating', a thin panel housing the radio and climate control, the pass-through compartment just forward , by the footwell.
The three-door hatchback with all sorts of bending performance typically geared serious young fans and the type of tuner, but the C30 tends to be something different. While a vibrant display, the combination of interior style C30, well-isolated road feel and handling opts out of the ragged edge, C30 is surprisingly not the kind of car you want thrown through corners. Rather, it is a touring coupe fast, or commuting comfortably - and the one with the responsiveness that will not disappoint you if you approach it from that direction. The 227-horsepower turbocharged five-cylinder provides linear power, with peak torque of 236 pound-feet at 1,800 rpm is very low. Automatic transmission is a willing companion surprising, because it makes the machine on impulse and work well with your right foot, six-speed manual transmission rather notchy is another option, and that was good too.
There are not many other positive things to share about the interior, once you get beyond style points. While the front of the seat is generally good, surprisingly tight headroom with sunroof, bucket seats and two carved-out at the back which is not really a full-scale size for an adult human. Disappointing cargo space is limited, with high cargo floor and a narrow opening through the glass hatch - pretty much ensures that you will close some visibility behind you just in a typical grocery run. Driving comfort is not more than enough, well, the suspension is on the firm side (although soft when pressed), and the C30 interior can get boomy on rough road surfaces.
Volvo has made the R-Design trims the models in the entire range of models, with a sporty edge plus extra comfort and distinctive materials and trim, and here's how to get the C30 if you are willing to pay a few thousand more. R-Design models get aero package on the front and rear, Pirelli high-performance tires on unique alloy wheels, retuned sport suspension, xenon High-Intensity Discharge headlamps, and standard navigation system that includes real-time live traffic data. Premier Plus and Platinum models get the R-Design added, as well as power driver and front passenger seats, keyless drive, and LED running lights.
