You may have a hard time pinning gender on the classic Beetle - Bug - but you will not have that problem with the latest to join the fold. This is much more clearly masculine, although it still carries the general proportions of the classic Beetle.
The previous generation New Beetle, on the other hand, is clearly feminine - right down to the vase on the dashboard. This time, Volkswagen hopes to find a balance that makes the fans "chick car" earlier while bringing new buyers - mostly men.
A longer body, a flat roofline, wider thighs, and details of the heritage combine to give 2013 Volkswagen Beetle a fresh-yet-classic. Hood is flatter than the New Beetle, and the windshield is set on a steep pitch - which incidentally removes the vast sea of the dashboard in the cabin.
Sporty cues like the spoiler and graphics of the Turbo models, larger wheels (up to 19 inches), and xenon lights help give more edge Beetle, too. Models dressed in a special edition of the eponymous '50s, '60s, '70s and style offering a set of ready-made looks. Of the three, we found the wheel model of the '50s interesting, and Toffee Brown retro-chic 70s model.
Inside, the cabin bringing heritage-meets-hip exterior theme through the body-color plastic panel (optional carbon fiber-look on Turbo models), a simple but clean and the center-stack layout, and gauges framed by flat-bottom wheel steering. Upright feeling really captured the essence of the original, without looking like it's trying too hard.
