2013 Hyundai Azera offers one thing no Sonata is somewhat smaller: a V-6. With a 3.3-liter V-6 and six-speed automatic transmission, Azera front-wheel-drive fast, responsive, and smooth, and while it handles confidently, the priority is comfort.
'Lambda' all-alloy engine has direct injection and incorporates dual continuously variable valve timing, four valves per cylinder and dual overhead cams, plus a three-stage variable intake system. On regular gasoline, it makes 293 horsepower and 255 pound feet, and has a roller timing chain for durability and lower maintenance costs.
With multiple personality types, V-6 revs and energetic, with a higher specific output than other machines in this class, making peak power at 6400 rpm, just short of redline, but also quite torquey at lower revs compared to the former Hyundai V -6 engine. This one is already making 200 pounds-feet at 1,500 rpm.
A Shiftronic manual mode comes standard in the Azera, and a six-speed automatic transmission is responsive but has a different ratio for relaxed highway cruising or taking off quickly. Plus, electric power steering system in the Azera feels relaxed and well-tuned than what is used in other front-wheel drive Hyundai products. This will probably be what comfort-oriented buyers expect, with a good sense of the center building and weighting suspected.
The Azera uses MacPherson strut-type front systems, and multi-link rear setup, but Sachs amplitude-selective campers not only help filter out small bumps without causing less body control. Special attention has been paid to the load side, to help increase the confidence on the road curved, and gestures more controlled than in other luxury cars to rise gently.
