Volvo has a long reputation for top-notch occupant protection and top-notch safety equipment, and for the most part it lives up to C30.
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, giving C30 highest rating "Good" for frontal offset, side impact, and rear crash and roof strength. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not assessed the current C30.
The 2013 Volvo C30 includes electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, front and side airbags, and side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor. There is also Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS), which monitors the car maneuvers and may choose to delay certain functions to prevent driver distraction - incoming phone calls, for example. Optional equipment which is not uncommon among compact hatchback includes a lane departure warning system and rear-obstacle detection system.
