There is a definite dichotomy in the character of the performance of 2013 Volkswagen Beetle, but it is not drawn on the traditions coupe / convertible line.
Rather, it is a bright line between the Beetle Turbo fresh and crisp and the rest of the range.
In the format coupe or convertible, the Beetle Turbo 2013 is quite fast, running up to 60 mph from a standstill in under eight seconds. At 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is not powerful, but it does give a good torque and hence acceleration, from around 2,500 rpm. A gruff voice and a more controlled suspension calibration complements the company's level of push-but-compliant handling - as you would expect from a car that is essentially a coupe version of the GTI. Steering feels good, but not all natural, common mistake for electric power steering systems.
2.5-liter five-cylinder engine rated at 170 horsepower motivating the standard Beetle. While it was not strong, either squeeze-out to collect some acceleration were better than average. In coupe form, the base car can be had with either a manual or automatic transmission, the convertible, it automatically only with a five-cylinder engine. The combination was not very inspiring, also tune the suspension.
There's also a TDI diesel option, with 140 horsepower -, 236-pound-foot rating and 41 mpg on the highway. They are solid figures in all but accounts horsepower, and the car's performance to reflect that. Gearbox is used to extract high rank higher gas mileage will be using a lot of torque, but after the engine is on boost, TDI Beetle is fun, with a chassis settled and almost classic Beetle murmured.
In all models in which it is available, the DSG dual-clutch gearbox is a welcome addition, changing gears smoothly for the most part - there was little hesitation or bog when he rolled away from the stop.
Brakes give a little travel too much but it seems pretty deep bite around switchbacks West Virginia to make the Beetle is more interesting and more serious than the old New Beetle bubbly ever, even once you get it to stop laughing.
