Overall 2013 Lexus CT 200h

Entering the third year of the model, 2013 Lexus CT 200h is still occupying one category: It is the only luxury hybrid compact hatchback is offered in the United States today. It is a surprisingly fun fun-to-drive, and feature-packed entry for Lexus, and redeem the brand after disappointing HS 250h hybrid sedan, which quietly disappeared after only three years on the market.

The CT 200h likely to appeal both to the owner of the Prius ready luxe little more in their lives driving and first-time luxury buyers in, including, younger more tech-savvy drivers that Lexus hopes the car will reach.

As the first Lexus hatchback, CT 200h low, aggressive look, and bring hot hatch design elements like the MazdaSpeed3. Upscale design and fittings therein remain miles away from the old stereotypes "econobox" of a small hatchback. Low-set, horizontal instrument panel includes a thick center console that holds lots of control - a marriage of hybrid technology with luxurious design cues.

The Lexus CT mechanically similar to the Toyota Prius, with the same 98-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder and Hybrid Synergy Drive system. A pair of electric motor generators transmit power to, and supported by, pack of nickel-metal-hydride battery under the rear deck that stores energy generated in the engine overrun and regenerative braking, and then give back to increase engine torque and - under light load at a speed of low - moving the electric car.

The CT had a very different set of Prius, to make it a more sporty drive. Smart Sport mode that changes the response of most of the control electronics, providing full power assists at partial throttle and neatly convert a tachometer to measure the strength of red-rimmed. Unfortunately, the electric power steering CT is still more rigid than the feedback offered in sporty hatches like the Audi A3 or Volvo C30.

No hot hatchback can deliver something like the CT 200h EPA rating of 42 mpg combined, which is likely to hover around 40 mpg in real world usage. (Closest match possible new SkyActiv 2.0-liter engine offered in the Mazda3, which return more than 35 mpg in our road tests.) Learn to ignore the measure Eco CT and endure loud roar of the engine when it's revved, and you'll have fun driving and still get gas mileage in the top of the charts.

The interior of the 2013 Lexus CT field, although about 4 inches shorter in wheelbase than the Prius, nearly 6 inches shorter overall. The driving position is excellent, putting the driver low - that feels sporty - and offers generous headroom. The rear seats are more stringent for adults, but they fold flat, providing roomy cargo area if only two people using cars.

List of standard and optional features long, as you would expect from Lexus. Fully integrated iPod control, keyless ignition, Bluetooth hands-free voice and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Lexus Safety Connect all standards. Many options including Lexus Enform real-time information and navigation system, rain-sensing wipers, and LED lighting. Dealers can also install a full line of performance and appearance accessories under the label F-Sport.
