Cadillac blew his idea of an old luxury back in 2003, when it dropped the first CTS and "Art & Science" styling on an unsuspecting world. Since then, the theme has been much discussed, sometimes maligned, but always a point of difference for the brand GM when in dire need of something to call their own.
With 2013 Cadillac ATS, Art & Science will be ground down even more than a passionate, raw beginning to something less divisive. Put through a grinder bench once again, nearly edge honed to go now pint-sized grille and what used to be his crease swath of the fender. Tensions extreme graphics of the first CTS and even the follow-up action has been really relaxing, angle ATS 'mashed like contour sheet and roofline angles off to the wild Infiniti. Outright aggression right out, but the outline ATS aura confident with long tapered lamp, LED fillips, pelvic very sculptural, and attitudes that are so close to that of the Class C this time, it's not so much respect, it was flat-out challenge.
We are all about the theme, but the current CTS '"V" attraction creates some terrible ergonomics. ATS allows the function to take over, without letting the form of suffering. Sweep of wood or metal trim pieces would not be out of place in a BMW or Infiniti, but there are other brands that change the interior of their cars are not as complete with Cadillac CUE - although Ford comes close to the MyFord Touch. CUE, which we will discuss in our Features section, replacing much control ATS 'with a touch-sensitive screen. The layout resembles that found in, say, Lincoln MKX - but beautifully rendered display is a cut above the people at Ford and Lincoln, and measure and center-stack screen coordinate better with each other, too.
Like Lincoln, Cadillac made a big jump in fit and finish, and the cabin ATS 'warmer and better executed than its luxury competitors, Audi store. Trim pieces stitched dashboard, wood trim and finish options - or metal or carbon fiber - giving the ATS blinking characters you will find in the new A4, though the dashboard ATS 'dramatic curved panels more attractive than the Audi.
