This at least is closely competitive with all other premium compacts rear-drive, but the Cadillac ATS is not a leader in gas mileage.
It is a game of inches in this class. ATS has not been formally assessed as of yet, but according to GM estimates, the base 2.5-liter four in the ATS will be assessed on mpg 22/32, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-productive of the same rank. Both are expected for the automatic transmission, there are no figures for the manual gearbox has been released, nor has the number for the version with all-wheel drive.
Cadillac ATS said the V-6 with automatic transmission will be assessed at 18/29 mpg.
To the contrary, EPA published the 2012 fuel economy mpg BMW 328i at 23/34 for the manual, 23/33 mpg for the automatic, 335i mpg which is rated at 23/33 with mpg, automatic 20/30 with the manual.
The 3-Series benefits from the stop / start technology that improve mileage a bit, but even the other competitors ATS 'fare slightly better gas mileage. Latest Audi A4, with an eight-speed automatic, is rated at 24/31 mpg.
ATS outpaces Class C, at least, because it was rated at 21/31 mpg. And it far exceeds the fuel economy lags behind the Infiniti G37, which enters the 2012 model year with a rating mpg 19/27 and 17/25 mpg for the automatic and manual models-complete, respectively.
Cadillac executives confirmed that a diesel engine is a must for ATS to be successful in the European market. They have hinted that diesel could also be available in the U.S., but no official announcement has been made.
