Overall 2013 Ford Fusion

Back in 2006, the Ford Fusion essentially replaced the Taurus nameplate tarnished the company's lineup of sedans. It did not usher in a new era of iconic style like his ancestors, but it is charming right-sized package proved himself from time to time with lasting value and reliability, not to mention some better way of driving in the segment.

With its 2013 redesign, the new Fusion took the bold leap of the same design that the original Taurus did in 1986, and the jumps are confirmed place at the top of the family sedan. Looks pretty good now, how to drive, if anything, has grown even more athletic. Packaging is better for adults, even in the back - and with a new hybrid and plug-in hybrid model, the Fusion is not only the most fuel efficient ever - it's a mid-size sedan the most fuel-efficient you can buy, period.

We kept circling back to the appearance of Fusion, because it's easy to see the influence that builds up on the whole, very good looking slim. Bend the front end and chamfers hexagon grille between the headlamps and foglamps with a half-Aston, half-Hyundai. The roof line? Pure Audi A7 from at least the quarter back, with LED taillamps emphasis that point. Sideview is all Ford, though, and the other elements are not hanging out of context - they flow seamlessly together. The interior is functional and sleek, especially with system-driven MyFord Touch touchscreen and touch-sensitive controls on the center stack finish leveling such tablets. The shock transformation Fusion clear out of anonymity into the rock-star status.

The basic 2.5-liter four is not likely to live up to their dreams of air guitar, but for some of the EcoBoost engine serves up some tasty alternatives. The weaker the four that are standard on the two lower Fusions, 178 horsepower and six-speed automatic is not provided by Ford for testing. Instead, we racked up a hundred miles plus on EcoBoosts, the first 2.0-liter turbo four with 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. This is the replacement for the V-6 which in the new Fusion spec sheet, and it is suitable for the task, but quick to rev, and the automatic shifts quickly click through the control paddle. Fusion is relatively mild - with optional all-wheel drive on this model, it was around 3,700 pounds - so it feels agile and well-tuned electric power steering make driving feel more excited than any other mid-size four-doors we've driven. This corner firm and flat, with the right amount of give and trips, a combination that goes off-kilter in more than a few top contenders Fusion.

There's also a 1.6-liter turbo four with 178 hp and six-speed manual is available, in the light Fusion, also produces the best fuel economy numbers shy Fusion Hybrid (reviewed separately), up to 37 mpg highway estimated. It was only 1 mpg shy of the best in its class Altima, and some digits are better than the Fusion out.

Slightly longer overall than before, Fusion has a longer wheelbase, and it shows in a better leg room, in a sitting position. The chair itself is thinner and more powerful, such as the Ford Escape in 2013, but we did not mind sitting in it for hours, even though we will tilt the bottom cushion down in the front seat manual a bit more. Great headroom without the sunroof optional, not known so far with one - Ford does not make the glass-roofed vehicles available for testing. The trunk is 16 cubic feet, which is great for the classroom, and the Fusion has ample storage throughout the cabin, with a stow under the center stack, bottle holders in the doors, and a decently sized glovebox. Impression of high enough quality, especially with regard to noise and vibration damping extinguish, Fusion door close to thump you feel more than you hear.

Security features including front knee airbags and Bluetooth standards, the IIHS gave the new Fusion Top Safety Pick + status. Fusion is equipped with climate and cruise control, power features regular, a CD player and an additional jack, cloth seats, tilt / telescoping steering, and steering-wheel audio and phone controls. At a base price of $ 22,495, it is one thousand dollars or more value-oriented than most of the competition, which grew wider spread when you are trying to match the high economic issue. Nissan Altima with the rating of the lowest 38-mpg highway is $ 21,500, Fusion S gets 34 mpg highway, but to get the best highway 37 mpg, you'll spend $ 25,290 for a smaller-displacement EcoBoost four. Power front seats, leather upholstery, a navigation system and rearview camera choices, such as all-wheel drive and a suite of security features such as lane-keeping assist and active park assist.

Fully loaded, hardly Fusion fold nose under $ 40,000, but there is a significant sweet spot in powertrains and features just under $ 30,000, where you'll find a 1.6-liter EcoBoost automatic with navigation, a blind-spot monitor, seat leather, rearview camera and rear parking sensors. At that price, a manual transmission is a no-cost option. We're just saying.
