A new vehicle on the new architecture, the 2013 Ford Fusion has not been crash-tested yet by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) says Fusion worth a "good" test scores major frontal and side, as well as 'acceptable' rating in a small test-new frontal overlap, which as a whole get a Top Safety Pick award for model year + new.
In the meantime, see the hardware safety Fusion is promising. Each equipped with eight standard airbags, including dual front knee airbags, a first for a sedan. Along with the mandatory stability control, Fusion also has a standard active headrests with a sleeker design than in several other Ford vehicles, and less of the bulge to the front which makes a less comfortable seat. Bluetooth is also standard across the lineup, along with the SYNC phone and audio connectivity - and we regard it as a security feature, given the realities of driving and talking on the American highway.
In terms of safety features optional rearview camera is not available on the base sedan, it is an option on the SE and standard on Titanium, along with the 8-inch LCD touchscreen is also used as the MyFord touch screen. Rear parking sensors are an option in the SE and standard on Titanium, too.
Finally, Titanium is the only model that offers some of Ford's latest safety technologies, all options, some bundled in the package, some are offered independently. They include lane departure warning and lane-keeping system, which gently nudge the car back into line if its front-facing camera detects that it crossed the boundary line, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor for side rearview mirrors, with cross-marks and retreat from the cross that makes a little more secure parking spots, and active park assist, a call to a parallel car when you operate the pedal.
Fusion visibility is excellent. Relatively slim roof pillars do not obstruct a glance over the shoulder, and decklid are not quite high enough to eliminate a lot of the rear view - even though the mirror itself is not too big.
