New 2013 Acura ILX

The News for 2013 Acura ILX Reviews - New for 2013, the Acura ILX is a compact, semi-sporty sedan that is intended to help the luxury brand of Honda reaches new buyers to trade their first Acura: Generation X young generation and most of Generation Y. This is the latest of several vehicles with the Acura hopes to polish the image of the brand and, like most Acuras, based on the underlying technology of Honda models - in this case the popular Civic compact and reliable.

You can never guess underneath the Civic, though. The Acura ILX has a completely different sheetmetal, more equipment and more interior-upgrading, both in design and materials. The result is a compact luxury sport sedan - or at least close to one.

Three models of the Acura ILX offers a different personality shocking, though. All are front-wheel drive, and the most popular is likely to be the base model, powered by a 150 horsepower -, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Victims sportiest brings 201-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, available only with a manual six-speed. Then there ILX Hybrid, which is slower, but more green, using 1.5-liter four-cylinder common and integrated drive system as a model Civic hybrid equivalent. Total output is only 111 horsepower, but it is rated at EPA estimated 38 mpg highway.

For a more detailed look at the ILX, including trim levels and prices, see our full review of the 2013 Acura ILX.

2.0L standard level ILX EPA-estimated 24 mpg city, 35 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined. The ILX sporty 2.4L, not surprisingly, did not do that well. It's rated at 21 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while the fuel-sipping Hybrid ILX gets EPA-estimated 39 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.

With a comfortable ride quality, slightly-sporty attitude still around the corner, and performance oriented 2.4L ILX, the latest Acura offers a taste of a sports sedan in the entry-luxury arena. If you choose the 2.0L models, you will get a relatively efficient commuter, while the Hybrid Ekes out better than average fuel economy, even though it was short on the second power (against another small luxury car) and gas mileage (the most efficient in between hybrids).

Rather than focusing on one of the aspects, ILX seeks to provide a balance of luxury, performance, style, and efficiency that appeals to young professionals. There are three main trim specifications for ILX: the base model, the Premium Package, and Technology Package. ILX standard specification includes cloth upholstery with leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth hands-free calling, a power moonroof, keyless entry with push-button start, rearview camera, and more.

Premium Package adds leather seating, eight-way power seat driver adjustable, heated front seats, multi-view rear camera, and a premium sound system. Technology Package (not available on 2.4-liter models) adds navigation with voice recognition and real-time traffic and weather, premium sound system, and the AcuraLink satellite communication services.

2013 Acura ILX has not been rated by the federal government, but the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded an 'excellent' rating in all categories, and a Top Safety Pick status. For more details click here
