These are just a few weeks from the dealer, but the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover does not have an official fuel economy ratings, or other blessings of the EPA.
Land Rover estimates that the dramatic changes in construction techniques, the new Range Rover shed 700 pounds over comparably equipped 2012 version. In a new Range Rover, not only the body panels are aluminum - it's part of the body, too, riveted and bonded with aerospace adhesives-level to ultra-stiff joinings.
Weight loss and other drivetrain improvements should improve the operating efficiency of Range Rover around 9 percent, is expected. To the 2012 ranking of 12 miles per gallon city, 18 miles per gallon highway, and 14 mpg combined, which works out roughly to mpg 13/20 is expected, or as much as 16 mpg combined. It's not a miracle gas mileage, then - but it's much better, and a good bit ahead of vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz GL 550 in it.
Unfortunately, it does not look like the U.S. customers will gain experience with diesel-powered Range Rover, at least until the middle of the decade when European regulations on emissions become much more stringent, more like our own. There is also a plug-in diesel hybrid coming to Range Rover in other markets - maybe it's possible, once other obstacles will be removed.
