The BRZ is first and foremost a sports car and a very light, simple, one focusing on the moment. So it can be said that this is a small 2 +2 coupe is a hoot to drive, especially when the roads become more toned and curvy.
Power comes from Subaru's horizontally opposed engine 'boxer', makes 200 horsepower from the 2.0-liter turbo-no, but is equipped with Toyota's direct-injection components. With the rev-happy power characteristics and relative lack of low rpm torque (it makes its peak 151 pounds-feet at 6600 rpm speed) is not a powertrain that brings blistering straight line, but keep the engine spinning and you'll be glad squirt out of one corner and to the next. Within the range of 4500-rpm to 6,500 rpm, power build up quickly, and the four-cylinder intake rather ordinary sounding results to the skin, which is not tenorous pulsating sounds like WRXs who have received treatment tuner.
Both BRZ transmission does a good job in keeping the fun and keep the revs up when needed, but it is, just short-throw six-speed manual that we recommend. Those who want to be let down by the automatic six-speed auto here either, as it includes a sport mode sharpens shift, delay, offers steering-wheel paddle-shifters, and even give you a rev-matching throttle blips when you manually downshift. Also, with auto and sport mode, manually select the gears and hold it, even at full throttle detail that fans will appreciate.
"Pure fun handling" is the mantra for development BRZ, and very low center of mass (one of the lowest of any production car of mass) and 2,800-pound curb weight speak it. Handling and body control are confidence-inspiring and very predictable. With low-mounted struts and coil springs at the front, plus a brace front and double-wishbone (multi-link) setup basically adapted from IMS, the BRZ is set to scrub speed down the front wheel first and carefully transfer the weight back to the tail when the driver pushed it. You can edge the tail under the rule, but you should try to do it with the revs and a heavy right foot. And quick-ratio steering gear managed to bring a lot of road feel through the steering wheel.
The BRZ will be a popular choice for weekend track excursions, and for that there is not just Sport Mode for the DSC stability control but also a full-off mode. A Torsen limited-slip differential also helps provide surer footing the rear wheel out of corners both on the track and in the tight, curvy road.
