Jaguar XJ might have one of the most storied nameplates in automotive history, but it took a total reboot 2011 to restore some of the glory faded. Now attention grabbing shapes, sedan-soaked drama was severing all ties with the past traditional. And this year, it is stretching its appeal, not to the longer-wheelbase version, but with the new V-6 and a newly available all-wheel drive.
Both changes XJ chic design ethos that. Is set to stun, deliberately, because the Jags past that you put it off. This is what it should look like the flagship Jaguar since about 1990 - the roof line drop-dead gorgeous, sailing far rear pillar, cornerstone sensitivity arises from the grille to bugle-bead LED taillamps. A detail or two fell flat: the pillars that wants to be satin-finish, to show off the all-aluminum core car and the rear element can understyled. This is the inside of the opposite, where the endless ring of metal trim and shape control could use some editing.
Drivetrains XJ retooled do anything to ride enchanted and handling, but they broaden its appeal, especially for affluent commuters in the Northeast. The base XJ now has a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 with 340 horsepower, down a few of the available 385-hp is a 5.0-liter V-8, but nearly as fast (0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds), and significantly good on gas, up to 27 mpg on the EPA highway cycle. Eight-speed ZF automatic pistol throughout the lineup usually quick, responsive shifting. There is also a new all-wheel drive with a rear torque bias: it is offered only in long-wheelbase six cylinder cars, and with low weight penalties, pit length Jaguar XJ is offered AWD models from Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Infiniti, and Lexus.
The 385-hp V-8 in the long-wheelbase will be blown out with a supercharger, and both times the whine with 470 hp or 510 hp on top of the XJ sedan. The 0-60 mph run of 5.4 seconds in naturally aspirated V-8 were cut to 4.9 seconds in the 470-hp supercharged version, and a 510-hp eight nail them in 4.7 seconds. Most of the V-8 version of the limited top speed of 155 mph, but the new Sport and Speed package with the new aero tweaks are allowed to roam up to 174 mph, where you will find Audi and BMW and Benz are limited, not by chance.
XJ's aluminum structure built by the deft handling, and with this generation, long-storied Jaguar ride isolation is history, replaced by the shades, athletic tight. We entertained all with his attitude, as lower unsprung weight and therefore does not have some electronic modulation endless teasing some German sedan. XJ has a sports mode for both electronic shocks and combined engine / transmission / steering, but it also has a more predictable reflex, without handling a wild tangent. Large ventilated disc brakes with anti-lock, brake drying and good pedal feel comfortable with the feel of fresh new XJ, and Z-rated tires to 20 inches persevere.
Even XJ seats that play a role in the feel of it, and so does the bold roof line. Together, the physical proximity of the XJ's interior makes it feel more exercise. Seat tight and flat, with more adjustment and heating and ventilation, but there is less head and leg room in the front and, in particular, in the back. It's tight at the knees on either side of the front console, but the leg room luxury, especially on a long-wheelbase car. The Slims sunroof to the head in front of, and behind, XJ really is not comfortable for an adult of six feet or more. Trunk space is the largest in the class, but smaller than the trash in the Ford Taurus.
Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested the new sedan. The new car also sports six airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, as before. There is a blind-spot warning system built into every XJ, and adaptive cruise control is an option. A rearview camera is standard.
2013 Jaguar XJ comes in nine versions, split between wheelbases and drivetrains and trim levels are relative, with prices starting around $ 74,000 and rise to more than $ 155,000 a surprise. All cars come with a panoramic sunroof, audio system AM/FM/CD/DVD/MP3/HD/Sirius/30GB hard drive, USB connectivity and Bluetooth stereo audio, a navigation system with voice control, and automatic climate control. All cars get heated front and rear seats, while ventilation and ventilated massaging front seats and rear seats are available in most versions. Best of all the features - and standard - Jaguar is a service plan, which pays for everything except gas and tires for the first five years or 50,000 miles of use.
