Volkswagen Group is comprised of 11 brands produced 240 vehicles in 49 plants worldwide. So the best way to showcase a variety of VW family is to cram a few thousand journalists and VIPs into the emergency stand to describe the purpose of the Group, what's in the pipeline and what you will be able to buy later this year.
To that end, VW pulled out all the stops on the eve of
2012 Geneva Motor Show, taking 10 vehicles from the entire range. We will delve into the details of each of the next two days of coverage of the event, but before that happens, you can read all about what we saw tonight from the cheap seats after the break.
The Bugatti Grand Sport can hit 223 mph Vitesse before the occupants must raise their voices to chat.
First up is the
2013 Audi A3, the first vehicle to use MQB modular architecture of a new VW. Audi claims that the spec 1.4T Quattro, A3 weighs nearly 180 pounds less than its predecessor and oodles of Gen-Y tech packs. Audi also plans plug-in hybrid version that will be released in 2014.
The yin to this A3 Which is the Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse, the fastest roadster in the world that can reach 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and reaches 223 mph before the occupants must raise their voices to chat.
We believe GM lawyers will have a field day with the concept Canyon Amorak, version of all-wheel-drive is a not-for-US pickup that packs 180-hp turbo diesel churning out 310 pounds-feet of torque turning the rock-crawl-able automatic eight speed. VW calls it a concept for now, but said production will begin in Hanover at the end of this year.
Porsche claims the new Boxster has composed Nürburgring 12 seconds faster than before.
Next is the all-new Porsche Boxster, which is 77 kg lighter than the outgoing model, and 10 additional horsepower gains while consuming 15 percent less fuel than its predecessor. Porsche claims the new Boxster has arranged Nurburgring in 07:58 - 12 seconds faster than the last generation - and can drop its top in nine seconds flat. We will be driving that weekend, so expect a full impression of the way early next week.
Skoda launched its version of the Up!, The Citigo, which seats four, has a lot of glass and is intended for families who need a second car or a first timer looking for something small and cheap to bounce around the city.
Far more interesting is the Giugiaro concept, four-seat sports car with gullwing doors and plenty of room in the backseat for the kiddies. A VW drivetrain under provincial life unknown, but the main feature is a pair of screens mounted on the steering wheel that goes from the exterior mirrors. Sounds safe. But again, that's why the concept.
Lamborghini Aventador Lambo J is the lowest ever produced. Yes, it was sold.
VW also launched a version painted Cross Coupe Concept from Shanghai, but claims that unlike its predecessor, it is powered by 305-hp TDI with plug-in hybrid capabilities. With this second show, expect some version of the Cross Coupe comes in the form of production within the next two years.
Then there's the Lamborghini Aventador Jota (or J) was not only the lowest Lambo ever produced, but come with a patented carbon fiber leather interior to match the full carbon fiber passenger cell. Yes, it's already sold. For 2.1 million euros - excluding VAT.
Seat has revived the marque Toledo and it was fun as midwest town. This is the Jetta. With the hatchback. And 500 liters of storage. Moving ...
Finally, we got the Bentley EXP 9 Concept F, automakers were much anticipated
SUV. Being a Bentley, it packs power V12 front, acres of hand-stitched cowhide and an optional plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
