What is the difference between black and black piano? Lacquer, and lots of it. Whether they are making a real piano or trimming out the car to the same effect, craftsmen will usually apply six layers of clearcoat to give the wood a deep shine, sparkle (compared with three layers of high-end features on the car body). When applied on the car, it is usually done as an interior trim on the dashboard, but the Black Edition RS2000, Melkus have completed the whole car.

Now if you've never heard of Melkus, do not worry - it's not really one of the best cars in the world. It's more along the lines of niche manufacturers Wiesmann, Artega or Veritas, which is also based in Germany. Melkus makes only one model, RS2000 that we first caught up with at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Gull-wing shape small packs horsepower from 325 to 2.0-liter turbo four for the sprint of 4.5 seconds to 62 mph and 168 mph autobahn-digit top end.

Besides paintjob highly varnished, Black Edition gets a carbon fiber aero kit, black leather and Alcantara interior with orange highlights and a long list of optional extras. Follow the jump for the press release and scope out the bevy of high-res images in the gallery.
