Overall, in 2013 Audi A7 and S7 have been cut very few of the features offered on the more expensive A8 flagship, which makes us wonder whether the A7 might just attract some buyers in the showroom. Put some extra money put into the options, and you can get some comfort in the most advanced high technology, information, and entertainment options.
The A7 is offered in Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige models, while the high-performance S7 comes only in the guise of Prestige. Prestige Models stepped into adaptive xenon headlamps, Bose audio, HD Radio, heated-and-ventilated front seats, four-zone climate control and front and rear parking sensors and rear camera system.
Options include 20-inch striking, ten-spoke alloy wheels, plus Audi side assist system that helps place the vehicle in the blind spot. Other options include high-end night vision system, a new cruise control system adaptive to come to a full stop and restart, and high-end Bang & Olufsen sound system that includes 15 speakers, with polished aluminum cover-acoustic lens tweeters plus that pops out when you turn on the system. The A7 can be optioned with a host of features grouped as Audi Connect, including the ability to turn the vehicle into a wireless hotspot that can simultaneously accept connections from up to eight WiFi-enabled devices.
Among the features included in the interface is awesome 3D Google Maps (which updates pretty quickly, as you move, to see the topography and terrain ahead). There is also Sirius Traffic updates for the navigation system, and they can be overlaid on images from Google Maps, if it's not overdone complete information (and, kind of geek dreams that map).
Audi also claims to have made the sound input A7 easier, thanks to the features of Google Voice Local Search is listening keywords then prompt you with the results and potential destinations. Google Local Search is also consuming details about the restaurant, hotel or accommodation and connect it to the map view. There's even a real-time traffic, weather and news updates, plus local gas station prices-also of course put in the form of maps. With features myAudi Destination, you can also log on to Google Maps and see up to 50 previous destinations or stored.
Audi MMI screen interface comes with a small base, called MMI Touch, you can use handwriting recognition to understand everything from the phone book to enter the destination nav navigation. You browse one letter at a time, and after a little practice we found it much easier (and less annoying) than a touch screen or a pointer-based system.
